"Average is a good word "
Okay so it's clean, and location is quite good. We stayed in a superior room and even then it was very small. Corridors, elevators, reception, everything is quite small and cramped. I stayed here with a group of friends so it suited us fine as we didn't spend much time in the rooms, however it was not in my opinion anywhere near a 3 star hotel, never mind anything else! Fine for low budget, mates holiday.

"Great base"
Have just come back from a very enjoyable stay here. Staff are very helpful especially Eduard who helped us with anything we need and served us with a smile and a joke at the bar (same recipe girls). Room and beds were comfortable although had a few clumsy moments forgetting the step up to the bathroom. The free tea and coffee facilities are great when coming in from a cold days exploring. Everywhere is easily accessible from the hotel. We walked everywhere but there are lots of buses and trams that stop just up the road. Only downside is there were clearly people smoking in the rooms as the smell of smoke on our landing was overwhelming at times (and I am a smoker myself!) and the fire alarm went off a couple of times once in the middle of the night but didn't seem as though anything was done about this.

"A good budget hotel"
We travelled to Amsterdam with Groupon who booked us in for 3 nights at this budget hotel. Our Groupon deal was excellent value for money so we were not expecting a luxury hotel. The Hampshire Hotel is clean and warm in an excellent location, it is with in walking distance of the main art galleries and museums. It is also well placed for lots of restaurants and bars. If we returned we would catch the 197 bus from the airport which stops about 50 metres away from the hotel. We paid for breakfast and enjoyed a typical continental breakfast each morning. The free coffee machine was very much appreciated. The staff are all very helpful and do everything they can to make sure you are comfortable and enjoy your stay. It is a good budget hotel that offers excellent value for money.

"4 day stay"
Stayed in this hotel for our 4 day stay in Amsterdam, we took a taxi here on arrival but discovered that the tram stop from central station is only around the corner do was very easy accessible if you know where you are going. The hotel is up a flight of steps so not so good if your unsteady on your feet. Staff are very pleasant & helpful & we'd booked a superior room so had plenty of space. We had a look at breakfast the first morning but decided it wasn't worth the €9 Euro or so being asked for it, just cold stuff ie, cold meats, buns cereal & so forth, however the free tea/ coffee machine was a god send, especially for me who can't really function in the morning without an hot drink & was also very welcoming after a cold days trek, there were fruit/ herbal teas available too. The heating was controlled by the hotel but was always lovely & warm, I would say the only downside was that we had two single beds pushed together rather than a double but we coped. Maids clean every day & we had a very pleasant stay

"Good place for your weekend in Amsterdam!"
The Hampshire Hotel Theatre District is very good place to stay for a weekend in Amsterdam. We visited all the city on foot starting from the hotel! For breakfast there is a limited choice, but everything was good. They leave the automatic coffee machine turned on all the day for the customers to use! The only bad thing in our room was the heater emitting a loud clicking sound for the whole day (and night!) On a side note... we wish hotels stop placing carpeting on the floor: It feels so unhygienic!

Amsterdam

Museums

Alongside the major, internationally-renowned museums (like the Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum and Stedelijk Museum), the vicinity of Hampshire Hotel – Theatre District Amsterdam also has a number of interesting, smaller museums. For example there’s the Museum Van Loon, based in a 17th century building on Keizersgracht. Here you will find the art collection of the family of Willem van Loon, one of the founders of the Dutch East Indies Company, the VOC. The Tassenmuseum Hendrikje is in a 1664 building declared as a national monument, on the Herengracht. This, the largest bag museum in the world, highlights 500 years of bag history. The Bible Museum on Herengracht is one of the oldest museums in the Netherlands. Its enormous museum collection encompasses not just Biblical items, but also Jewish and Egyptian religious ones.

Photography

The Foam Fotografiemuseum on Keizersgracht mounts major exhibitions with work from well-known photographers, but also smaller exhibitions from young talent and amateurs. Every year an exhibition is staged in the Nieuwe Kerk on the Dam, of nominees and winners of the World Press Photo. In the Melkweg Galerie photographers and photography lovers come together in varied exhibitions on current events and life visions.
